DUP Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea met with residents from Bells Court and Castle Oak, Castledawson who are opposed to the proposed new road route through their housing estates as part of the planned dual carriageway linking Castledawson roundabout and the M22 Motorway. Speaking afterwards Ian McCrea said:
“I met with residents on Friday 05 March 2010 from Bells Court and Castle Oaks to see for myself the serious concerns they have regarding the proposed dual carriageway that will run through their housing estate.
When buying their home in Bells Court and Castle Oak they did not envisage the prospect that their privacy and safety would be put at jeopardy with a dual carriageway running so close to their homes, not to mention the increase of car fumes and unwanted attraction of boy racers to the area.
I believe that the privacy and the safety of the residents of this area must be taken into consideration before a final decision is made. I will be requesting a meeting with the Regional Development minister to take allow the residents of this area to express their concerns directly to him.”
